We are supporing the work to build a value chain for jackfruit in East Africa to meet the growing demand for plant-based meat alternatives in Europe.

Despite its immense potential, much of the jackfruit grown in East Africa goes to waste. Meanwhile, in other parts of the world, particularly Asia, jackfruit is already being used as a plant-based meat substitute. By responsibly sourcing jackfruit from local farmers in East Africa, we aim to secure a stable market for their produce while fulfilling the increasing European demand for plant-based meat alternatives.

 

Developing a comprehensive value chain also involves collaborating with partners in Europe to explore new food applications for jackfruit. This is also one of the key aspect of our mission.
